Context & Calling

Called To Cross-Cultural Discipleship

Hi, I’m Sandra.

I am a teacher, writer, and lifelong student of God’s Word. Through Context & Calling, I explore how Scripture faithfully meets people within their own cultures, communities, and everyday lives.

Field Notes

Observations from the journey. Reflections for the calling.

Field notes are more than travel journals. They are observations gathered while learning from people, places, and cultures. These reflections capture stories from the journey, biblical insights, cultural observations, and questions that continue to shape my understanding of faithful cross-cultural discipleship. My hope is that they encourage thoughtful engagement with God’s mission and a deeper appreciation for His global church.

THE JOURNEY:

Places that have shaped my understanding of God’s world, His people, and His mission.

My journey toward cross-cultural discipleship did not begin in seminary or on a mission trip. It began in childhood, spending summers with family in Switzerland, where I first learned that people from different cultures were not strangers but neighbors. Since then, each place I’ve visited has broadened my understanding of God’s world and deepened my appreciation for His global church.

Switzerland. England. Mexico. Germany. France. Japan. Greece. Türkiye.

Each place has become part of my understanding of God’s world. Some represent childhood and family. Others deepened my appreciation for history, culture, and the global Church. Together they remind me that following Christ means continually learning to see people, places, and the gospel with greater humility and wonder.

Keep Exploring

Whether you’re looking to study Scripture more deeply, teach with greater faithfulness, or explore contextual discipleship, you’ll find practical resources waiting for you in The Library.

A modest bookshelf made of light, unfinished wood stands against a neutral wall, filled with well-used, different-sized books with plain, text-free spines in varied earth-tone and muted colors. Interspersed among the books are small artifacts: a simple carved wooden figure, a woven basket, a clay pot, and a smooth stone with natural markings, each hinting at different cultures without stereotypes. Soft overcast window light from the left creates gentle gradients and subtle shadows between objects. Photographic realism, shot straight-on at eye level with sharp focus throughout. The mood is contemplative and studious, emphasizing ongoing learning, cultural humility, and preparation for gospel mission and contextual discipleship.

A large sheet of kraft paper is taped to a wall in a simple meeting room, covered not with words but with hand-drawn arrows, symbols, and abstract icons representing a discipleship pathway across cultures. Below it, on a narrow table, sit colored markers, sticky notes without text, and a small hourglass half-drained of sand. Overhead fluorescent lights blend with soft daylight from a nearby window, casting even, neutral lighting with mild reflections on the marker casings. Photographic realism, shot from a slight side angle so the drawn symbols recede into the background, creating depth. The atmosphere is collaborative and strategic, suggesting a team thoughtfully designing contextual disciple-making processes.
